Stevenage CTC staged at least one bike ride every day of Bike Week, with nearly 600 people taking part in Stevenage and North Herts CTC activities.
The most popular events were the Baldock Cycle Challenge; the Stevenage Circular; Wednesday evening’s ride from Old Stevenage to Norton in Letchworth and Teddy Bears on Bicycles Picnic.
Bike Week annually encourages over half a million people to join in events, rethink their everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around. Nearly 1000 events took place all over the country.
Stevenage CTC group rides are led – and swept – by accredited CTC leaders, with a radio link. 2014 is Stevenage CTC’s 25th anniversary year. The group leads evening rides from Old Stevenage every Wednesday at 7.15p.m. all year round. Friday Fling cycle rides from Old Stevenage take place every Friday at 7.15p.m. until the end of August. Starter rides from Fairlands Valley Park are staged every Saturday at 2p.m. There are also a variety of Sunday rides from short half day trips to quite demanding “A” and challenge rides.
The silver jubilee year programme of special events Ride to the Tour on Monday 7th July; Off Road Challenges on 3rd August; the Cecil Cooke Trophy on 14th September; Cyclists’ Curry Crawl on 24th September; and Emitremmus Desrever (100 kilometres) on 26th October.
