Rhondda Cynon Taff Leisure Big Spin event

On Sunday the 17th of June 2018 we are holding an event called “RCT Big Spin”, where over 100 Spin cycles will descend on Hawthorn Leisure Centre and attempt to ride the combined distance of Pontypridd to San Francisco (which is 5300 miles).

Reason for this event:

Between the 8th September and the 30th of September 2018, two separate groups of riders will cycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles to help raise money and awareness for Velindre Cancer Centre. Across the two rides over sixty cyclists will attempt a 600km bike ride that will see them follow the iconic Highway 1. No doubt, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of the cyclists that will come with some fantastic opportunities.

Additional to this each cyclist will be raising a minimum of £6000 in fundraising with many raising much much more. Through the support of these incredible fundraisers, Velindre is recognized as Wales premier Cancer Centre.

We all know of family, friends and loved ones who have been touched by this illness; nearly 20,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Wales each year, and within 20 years one in two of us will develop cancer. However the Velindre staff strive every day to deliver the best cancer services through care, support and treatment – more people than ever are living with cancer.

Rhondda Cynon Taff Leisure would like to help support this fantastic cause and hopefully raise the profile of the West Coast Bike Ride and highlight the work that these great fundraisers are achieving. In addition to this, we hope to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

So on Sunday the 17th of June 2018 we are holding our inaugural RCT Big Spin where 100 Spin bikes will descend on Hawthorn
Leisure Centre and with your help, we will attempt to ride the combined distance of Pontypridd to San Francisco (which is 5300 miles).

We estimate this will take 4-5 hours to complete. Get involved with our RCT Big Spin as part of a team or a single rider.

Simply Sign up for £10 for a single rider or £30 for a team of riders, complete the application form and take it to Hawthorn Leisure Centre – pay your sign up fee at reception (you are then booked onto the Big Spin). First come first served basis (team riders need to complete an application form each and they must be submitted together).
